It's simply, really, they sort of add an average onto the usual price so they can afford it. The advantage is that you don't have to think about shipping in addition to the price.

Amazon.de also seem to be quite happy to let me preorder by the way and they have a link to the Kindle edition and the US hardcover for preorder, too (with prices finalized) and the Audiobook (with no price set yet).

i don't actually understand the process AT ALL. Even if they don't have copies in *yet*, there's no reason they should cancel *pre-orders*.

Waterstone's do actually have the book in stock, because I ordered one from them and they dumped it on my doorstep this morning.

Mine says it has "dispatched." I assume that means shipped. It has no shipping information, though, but it is also doing an international shipment.
