for anyone who cares, a public service announcement. I am *SO INCREDIBLY SICK* of deleting spam comments in Russian and Hebrew that I am now simply deleting the offending entries they appear in. I will eventually be forced to migrate to a different online journal, since LJ seems incapable of controlling it, and the offending spammers seem to be increasingly clever about preventing their comments from being efficiently deleted.

those of you lovely people who have sent me private messages that I haven't yet answered, I have not forgotten you... send me email at ewein2412 [AT] yahoo [dot] co [dot] uk and I will post you a copy of the Lleu story.

Ugh. So, so sorry. We have WordPress and do a complicated thingymajig with people having to have accounts before they can comment, and we STILL get people trying to make accounts who are spammers. It's a daily job to delete, delete, delete, but at least they don't make it online and in public.

SPAMMERS: SO. ANNOYING. And useless wastes of carbon.

Ditto! Dreamwidth is incredible efficient re: anti-spam measures. It is glorious to behold.

If you're interested in checking out Dreamwidth for a new journal, I have invite codes. They work hard at providing a good user experience, including battling spam. (And you have the option to import your LiveJournal if you like.)

What about changing your user name? Does that help with the spambots?

No, I don't think so. I've heard that the Russian spambots are because lj basically is the free press in Russia, and if the censors can't shut it down, they want to make it so annoying to use that no one does (which I don't think will work; if people have things they need to say, they'll say them, and just be really annoyed). I don't know about Hebrew spambots.

Although there's definitely some sort of selection process, because I've only ever gotten spam on my journal in English.

Um. >_> I hate Dreamwidth, so I suppose I will cast a vote for IJ.

I'm so sorry!

I haven't updated my wordpress blog in years on my own site and it still gets spam attempts now and again.

I never get those here probably because since 2002 I have only posted 60 entries ^^ on LJ. It's my comment and reading circle.

I'd have Dreamwidth invites, too (DW was really helpful when the DDoS attacks on LJ were happening, because a lot of my reading circle crossposts from there) - but you're well set up there ^^.

Something cheery:

Did I already direct your attention to the fact that the Booksmugglers Ana put Code Name Verity on her to-be-read list at GoodReads? Ana and Thea are fairly well-known book bloggers, Ana lives in the UK and loves stories about women pilots during WW2.

Hah! It's good to have people in different circles of online communities, indeed - but LJ feels like home to me still.

Thanks for the e-mail! I repeat my suggestion of wetting people's appetites with those on your blog/site and GoodReads - and possibly putting the UK blurb into the description box.

Would you consider closing comments on the old entries rather than deleting them altogether? That way people could still refer back to the old entries if they wanted!
