Although it's been in and out of print twice in the US, The Winter Prince has never been out of print in Germany since its publication there in 1995. Every January I am surprised by a very very small royalty amount for this edition:

This reminds me a bit of the Mortmains, sitting around waiting for the tiny royalty check for their father's book.

At least it's not your only source of income!

Hah, I didn't realize this. I thought you could only get some surplus of the Hardcover edition from that publisher's website.

So is it dtv or the hardcover people that you still get royalties from?

In any case yay for the long tail!

Okay, I can't read obviously - it's dtv! Well that's a traditional ya and kid's literature paperback publisher, as well as a well-loved literary paperback publisher, so people buy their books in the knowledge that they usually publish only the good and well curated stuff.

Or directly from dtv. The Amazon link only shows marketplace sellers here.

omg!!! I'm learning German this term! I can buy this AND ACTUALLY READ IT!!! ... okay, that might be overstating the case, but I'm sure having it in my possession will motivate me to learn quickly.

Ganbatte!

That's how I started to go into English! Well, after having had it at school for about four years. I started with ya - children's classics.

The first series I worked my way through in 10th grade was when I found out that Wintersonnenwende (The Dark is Rising) by Susan Cooper was part of a series and none of the others were going to be translated.

My mum ordered the Penguin paperbacks for me as a Christmas gift and I started (with a dictionary) to force my way through ^^.

winter solstice (http://dict.leo.org/?lp=ende&search=Wintersonnenwende) or midwinter (http://dict.leo.org/?lp=ende&search=Wintersonnenwende)according to the ever handy leo.org.

The book was in hardcover with an excellent translation by the widow of one of Germany's great literature authors - and it was fantasy which I was already reading in German at the time.

Then I must have read them a bit later, because my mum was able to order all the other books in a similar edition from Puffin paperbacks - I still own them all.

It was so disappointing hearing what they made out of it in the movie, I didn't even watch it after reading several reviews of people who had read the books.
