WE HAVE WHOOPIE PIES.

the secret REALLY IS in the branding. Kate gave me a recipe book for my birthday called, you guessed it, Whoopie Pies by Sarah Billingsley and Amy Treadwell (one from Pennsylvania and one from New England, just to put the origins argument to rest).

(My next door neighbor nearly bought me the exact same book.)

They may be the "new trend" in Edinburgh, where they pretty them up with sprinkles, but no bakery in the UK is going to make a genuine whoopie pie without Marshmallow Fluff and Crisco.

Americans in the UK take note: You can get Crisco on teh Internets. Hallelujah!

YUM!

Um, E?
What does one do with the Crisco? Tell me it's not part of the filling... please?

I had no idea there were enough variations on those things to fill a book.

tbh they scare me a little, but I have eaten Ring Dings on purpose so I don't know that I have room to talk.

Ooo...yum. Now I am super jealous. I think I even have all of those ingredients in my house, including Crisco which generally scares me but is apparently the trick to doing icing roses.

Now, if only my oven worked properly.

You can buy them in Edinburgh?!?! Where?!?!! Also where can decent cupcakes be bought? I can never find these things!

...or I could learn to bake them myself, but I still want to know!

I bought this cookbook. I am intrigued by the idea of doing the oatmeal variety, with maple cream cheese frosting. I just need an excuse, and a lot of people who would eat them.

Marshmallow Fluff

For what it's worth, www.americangoodies.co.uk sells Fluff too and it's only like £2.30 or something :D has any one tried whoopie pies with the other flavour fluffs?
