how would you say "You dropped your lipstick"?

it's one young woman talking to another, and it's nearly 70 years ago. They don't know each other.

also, "I'm sorry"

♥♥♥

so many thanks!

"Es tut mir leid" is "I'm sorry." My German knowledge does not extend as far as the other phrase, I'm afraid!

Hmm.

1st one:

"Verzeihung, aber Sie haben ihren Lippenstift fallengelassen."

(Excuse me, but you(formal) have let your lipstick drop.)

2nd one:

Es tut mir leid. (I'm sorry about it - whatever we were talking about, or just generally whatever happened before)
Das tut mir leid. (I'm sorry about that, where the audience has just heard/seen what went wrong.)

You're welcome ^^ *feels loved*

If you want to go into full detail it would be

"Es war leider doch nicht Ihr Lippenstift."

(Unfortunately it wasn't your lipstick.)

"Es tut mir leid, daß es doch nicht Ihr Lippenstift war."

(I'm sorry that it wasn't your lipstick after all.)

if you can't use "ß", use "ss"

I rather liked the Fran Liebowitz interview. She's so sharp-tongued! And so sharp.
