From a letter from Penguin Young Readers Group addressed to Elizebeth [sic] Wein:

"Dear Constance Leeds,

I am sorry to report that due to a decrease in sales and a lack of demand over the past year, we find it necessary to reduce and sell off our overstock of inventory of THE SUNBIRD."

The Sunbird has been available in hardback for nearly 6 years, so I'm not complaining about the remainder notice. But I swear swear swear to God I would not be so bitter and twisted if they would address my letters TO ME and not some randomer.

Also, if they ever gave me more than about 5 days to put the order in before their remainder deadline. This letter was sent to my agent's previous employer and forwarded twice to get to me. The deadline for ordering is 5 Feb. The letter is dated 15 Jan. That's not a lot of injury time.

LET'S TALK ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE! Maddie is delivering a Spitfire to Scotland. Julie is doing an interview for some made-up newspaper in Chicago. Oh, and I have just finished the second draft of the work-for-hire novel. What larks!

Oh, dear...we just won't talk about that, though.

Congrats on finishing the second draft ;o)

Ah, Penguin. Always looking out for their authors' needs. The Pampering Publisher.

*sigh*

UGH. You would think they could at least get your name right. Well, it is not for lack of me telling people they ought to buy and read your wonderful books! Though it is possibly for lack of people listening (silly people).

Yay for 2nd drafts, though! I am still trying to plow through my first one, so I am suitably envious.

Presumably if they got your name right it would arrive sooner. *hurls pointy objects in their direction*

However, YAY PRODUCTIVITY.

Ffffff---

So in other news that is talking about something else, groundhog day passed uneventfully! He saw his shadow. Back in my home in Oriental, folks celebrated by eating barbequed groundhog legs.

It's not either Perry County. It's Snyder. And yes, we did.

Gah, I guess they cut so many positions that the few people left over can't keep their own records straight. I was so glad BAEN gave P.C. Hodgell a contract but they've totally left her hanging in the PR department and she's not a pr-savy writer (which has no influence on the quality of her writing).

You're writing this and two friends above you I get this meditation from [livejournal.com profile] sartorias on the current writers' situation which seems to also point to another reason why these things happen to writers (and teachers, by the way): Sexy professions--writers and rank (http://sartorias.livejournal.com/381989.html)

Gah!

... you're right about the professions. Heh.

I don't understand how they managed to put the correct name on the envelope, but not the letter. Is Constance Leeds your agent or her former agency? (It sounds like a fake name.)

Yay for Maddie's plane! I diverted from my boring job by looking up pictures of Maddie's planes.

Oh, that makes sense. And, after a search of Amazon and Goodreads, and yes, you are right. And now I want to go read her book.

Oh how frustrating! People are such morons. At least you have the new novel to keep you busy. (Did you get my email OK, thanking you for your nice comment on my LJ? I wasn't sure if I used the right address.)

you know what this is, don't you? It's a sign that you need to sell an enormously juicy erotica book under the name of Constance Leeds. Maybe something like "Lovers Moon" or "Scandal in Scandinavia" or maybe even "The Bane of the Temptress"

I think any of the above would be surefire hits. If they don't already exist.

Good luck, Constance! Be perfit, be constant, be a good lead!

Ugh, I'm so sorry. You deserve more respect, and your novel deserves limitless shelf time. It's my favorite after WP!

I just started a book report thing on The Sunbird, and it begins "They better not put this out of print because I would like to go out and actually buy it someday."

NOOOOOO---

I feel like I shouldn't steal this from the library...Time to hit up used book stores.
