Q: "Why doesn't Scotland grind to a halt when it snows?"

A: Because it doesn't ever snow more than 4 cm. When it does, Scotland DOES grind to a halt.

I know the guy talks about a nearly 2 metre drift in a railway cutting back in 1947 or something, but in my ten years here the most snow I have ever seen is about 8 inches. And we had to drive 80 miles north into the Highlands to find it.

We get about 2 snowfalls a year, max 10 cm, lasting max 6 hours. By the time the kids are out of school and on the sledding hill, they are sledding in slush.

No, the really exciting weather that we get here is WIND. The 50 mph winds for 3 days, now THAT'S weather.

Glad to know I'm not the only one annoyed by this! I miss snow!!!A measly half-inch at a time if we're lucky, once a year or so. Once it actually snowed three inches and excitement abounded. Bah!

But the depressing thing about living out here in Utah is that NOTHING ever gets canceled no matter HOW much snow is out there. They expect everyone to know how to deal with it.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think in, like, fifth grade we had a snow day. And we made tunnels in the 3-feet-plus of snow in the front yard. But maybe that was just a Saturday, and not a school day at all...

WE are going to Minnesota. Where they think we don't get snow to speak of even in Philadelphia.

At least, if the promised snow tomorrow morning doesn't ground our flight.

HI!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. I haven't left a comment in FOREVER! Anyhow, I recently read The Queen's Own Fool by Jane Yolen and I loved it. I know who she is now. Also, when is Sword Dance coming to U.S.? I'm REALLY excited about it. And do you know about archery? I was wondering what kind of bow Medraut uses. Goewin, too. Because in movies and stuff, they use smaller bows and they're pretty and I don't know what they're called and this frustrates me. I want to take archery lessons, but I want to use the smaller bows, not the ones that are like 4 feet long. And I read your older entries and some of them are HILARIOUS! Anyway, I've wanted to take up archery for years even before i even read your books. Well i should probably go now. BYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAHA! It NEVER snows in Florida.

(Well, except for, like, two whole minutes way back whenever. It was probably a record. SO annoying. All thanks to GLOBAL WARMING! SAVE THE EARTH!!!)

I find that freaking out about snow is universal - I think the only exceptions are probably the Northern-midwest parts of America (Wisconsin, North Dakota etc), and maybe the northernmost parts of Europe - like arctic north. For example, in Rhode Island, I feel that snow should be a time to be alert, but certainly not to freak out - it's New England. And yet today, everyone in my state is mobbing the grocery store and freaking out and driving like idiots... and I'm like "Really?? because it snows every year, and every year WE'RE FINE."

I am personally VERY excited for the snow!! I imagine snow in Scotland is just...glorious!
