i remember this chapter vividly partly because when i was in jr high, I liked to design costumes for my favorite characters in the book and I took such care to make this a good dress I think because of the description haha! (goewin's short one)
I couldn't find ANY PM girls with short dresses, unfortunately, so I had to settle for the bare feet.
I used to do quite a lot of costume design for them as well. Hmm, actually I used to dress as Medraut all the time--I'd come into work at my part-time job when I was in college and the people would all say, "Oh, you're being Mordred again today." Lots of black and indigo.
LOL I'm actually kind of excited about doing it! I haven't had a costume project in a while. Though the period is not generally a very exciting one for clothing. I'll just have to take some artistic license LOL.
I confess to a lack of accuracy and a love of gold thread, myself.
Unfortunately there is no decent web link to Fitch's Trading Post in Harrisburg, which we used to kiddingly refer to as "Purveyors of Fine Footwear to the Pendragon Family." I used to draw everybody wearing suede moccasins.
there's always the birrus britannicus... this wonderful hooded cloak which is apparently typical of Romano-British dress. This figure is Lleu, I reckon (he is wearing this cloak during the last chapters of the book)
oh cool! any artistic resources you have, definitely send them over! Particularly if you have any Ethiopian sources you like. In my movie, some of Medraut's costumes would reflect his time in Africa (plus his pageant jewelry of course).
I think I'll probably concentrate on the siblings, plus Medraut and Morgause. I might throw in an Artos/Ginevra. I'm particularly excited about the "coronation" (for lack of a better term) and pageant costumes, of course. I'm gonna treat the book as my script and take any textual clues you gave, and pick some of the most important looks! I'll take a look at your illustrations too :-D
woohoo! I can't wait till my schoolwork is done LOL
I think you'll find the original source is actually rather vague on detail... "dressed simply and bearing no weapons" doesn't actually tell you anything...
