I've got a piece in Through the Wardrobe, a collection of essays about Narnia written by YA writers for YA readers. It's part of a series, commissioned by Borders, of non-fiction anthologies aimed at teens. Through the Wardrobe is time to coincide (more or less) with the new Prince Caspian film. Here's the scoop on the book:

-----------------------------------
 Through the Wardrobe
Your Favorite Authors on C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia

Edited by Herbie Brennan

Why is Prince Caspian the ultimate teenager?
What does Narnia have to do with the Nazis?
How come C. S. Lewis has such a big problem with lipstick, anyway?

Step through the wardrobe . . . and into the imaginations of sixteen friends of Aslan as they explore Narnia, from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe to The Last Battle, from the heart of Caspian’s kingdom to the Eastern Seas.

Join in on the adventure, the battles, and—of course—the celebrating!

Find out:

·        How in Narnia (like in our world), bigger isn’t always better
·        Why Edmund Pevensie is totally crush-worthy
·        What tea and Turkish Delight have to do with religion
·        Why it’s okay to have an occasional temper tantrum

Sometimes it is such a drag having a last name that begins with W! HOWEVER, the front runner in the list of topical questions, "Why is Prince Caspian the Ultimate Teenager?" in fact refers to my essay; which was a rather nice surprise, after the tremendous amount of back-and-forth beating-the-durn-thing-into-shape with the series editor, Leah Wilson, that it took to produce the end result.

If you're interested in such things, take a look at TeenLibris, the website that's being put together in connection with the series.  I've got essays in the Golden Compass collection and the Percy Jackson collection, and a kind young reviewer has actually singled out my Percy Jackson essay for compliment.

I have always been wondering about C.S. Lewis and the lipstick hate.

Which I suppose means that there isn't really a clear answer, just conjecture?

I fangirl in your general direction (http://firiel44.livejournal.com/127397.html).

I haven't been able to puzzle out the lipstick thing either.

*bounces happily* Thank you, thank you! If it's as good as it looks, there will have to be more big-excited-fuss-making when it is read.

Ooooh, that sounds like geek heaven!

Fortunately, I need to hit Borders anyway -- got a gift card burning a hole in my pocket...

i posted a little bit about it, but you don't need to send me a copy - the fact that my posts are locked and that my friends list doesn't actually have any teens on it probably won't do you much good. =\ but the narnia & golden compass collections sounded interesting, so i wanted to write about them regardless!
