I'm off to the States on 13 July, not returning till 10 August. Among other things while I'm away, I'm going to the Children's Literature New England summer institute in Colchester, VT from 30 July to 5 August. Anyone else going to be there?

yay for summer vacation!

Sorry to miss you.

Enjoy yourself out there. Never been to VT, and I'm not planning on going, but Green Mountains....must be beautiful.

Omigod - please kiss Margaret Mahy's feet for me!!

We got invited to the group's picnic in Boston last year, and I got to meet Katherine Paterson, who is just as nice as you expect her to be. I used to know Susan Cooper (she was a radio fan) - if you need a "Nice to meet ya" opening line, tell her I said Hi.

I wish Delia could go to this thing - her first big kids' book is coming out 1 Sept. (CHANGELING) - maybe she can still go? I'll ask. We are neck-deep in boxes right now. But we are definitely getting settled here in NYC - I know you've got 3000 people to see here, but if you'd like to make it 3002, give us a shout! We'd love to see you (and show you Chateau Riverside in all its glory).

Well, I dunno - haven't seen any reviews or anything yet!

(Sharyn - Can we get CHANGELING postcards to this thing? Any thoughts on how?)

Vermont?
I thought you were going through Las Vegas so we could have coffee (or tea) at the airport.

Winter Prince

I don't really think you need any help or classes in writing. I am particularly fond of Winter Prince. It is a great book! When I was teaching Brit Lit (high school classes), I assigned it every year. I would have liked to have assigned it to my 9th graders but I thought the incest might be a little heavy for them. I think the best "children's novels" are not necessarily for children. If a children's novel does not appeal to me as a 59-year-old woman, I don't think it is truly a great novel.
