Just what sort of luxurious upbringing did they have in mind for the new Christ? Surely he wouldn't be an expensive baby/child? A little straw to sleep on, swaddling bands... I suppose it all adds up.
you could take the other view, which is that they're cheapskates. one million pounds will buy you a sizeable estate in the Highlands, but it won't pay for food, servants, gameskeepers, etc.... Maybe they would have blown it all on luxury nursery schools and THEN where would they be when he was ready for prep school?
