rachelmanija so very kindly asked what I've been doing lately and I figured I'd make it public rather than just responding to her comment.

I have had the Holiday Season from Hell followed by a week of bliss in the Caribbean, and that's basically why I haven't been rambling on here. In brief, I had a manuscript due on 1 December, and sundry other work-related deadlines right up till Christmas; Tim was away and/or we had houseguests from 3 to 27 December with ONE NIGHT excepted (the worst crush was 12-18 December, during which time I had to change and wash sheets four times for a total of 8 different guests); plus all the usual hassle attendant on school performances, gift shopping and wrapping, decorating and cleaning of house, cooking, etc. There was a wedding in mid-December in which we were heavily involved (friends, not family). I was sick for 6 weeks with a) hacking cough b) stomach bug c) flu d) common cold e) all of the above since mid-November; I was sick (in bed, throwing up sick) on Christmas day, leaving Tim and his parents to get on with opening presents with Sara and Mark; although I did manage to creak out of bed at 5.00 p.m. and cook Christmas dinner for everybody. Etc etc.

On 28 Dec we went to the British Virgin Islands for a week and I forgave everybody everything.






Now I am working on a New Book for the first time in many years, it seems--all uncharted territory--and enjoying it.

ETA: Oh, and The Sunbird comes out in paperback this week.

You certainly did earn it. Sara looks fun. The muse is sitting on my shoulder making me mildly nervous because I want to send off the first third of the novel to an agent by the end of the week (my first cold pitch in over 10 years). Yikes!

Nothing worse than being sick during the holidays. But I am really looking forward to the new book. Is it in the Winter Prince sequence?

all going as planned, the "new" book will be the SIXTH in Winter Prince sequence (which boggles my mind). 4 and 5 are already in the mill.

of course you may add me to your friends list. I am always delighted to make people happy beyond all imagining! but sad to say it'll be at least 2007 before the books come out, and I'm very hesitant even to commit to that date. Trust me, I am working on it.

What great pictures -- I really like the light and the curve of the beach in the first one, and the sharp shadow on the rock in the second.

Hooray, new book! And I've already ordered The Sunbird and am looking forward to reading it and rereading the first two. :)

I wish I was more inspired to do those pictures justice when I reproduce them, instead of just making them a manageable size. The one of Sara jumping is just amazing--her shadow looks like it's doing something completely different from her body, like Peter Pan.

I appear to be temporarily full of immunity against ANYTHING, but I've got a kid home from school with another stomach bug at the moment. Perth has got to be the Cold and Flu Capital of the World. I swear, when the Pandemic hits (whatever it is), this city will be wiped clean. Everybody gets EVERYTHING.
