Another thing I like about Scotland...
Dec. 16th, 2004 11:17 am...is that there is a Christmas tree in every single one of the big Victorian bay windows up and down our road. At night they are all lit up, and as there aren't a lot of outdoor decorations here, they are the most noticeable seasonal bit of dressing-up for each house. Our road, Glasgow Road, is the main street in and out of Perth, the one that had a route number until they built a bypass. I can only speak for Perthshire, of course, but I don't remember there being a Christmas tree in the front window of every house in Marlow, outside London.
The houses without trees in the windows, and a lot of the apartments, have got little arches of electric candles (gentile menorahs?).
When we lived on the other side of the street and Mark was a baby, I used to nurse him in the bay window of our bedroom before I put him to bed. I could count 14 Christmas trees up and down the street from where I sat.
