From 14-26 September I am going on tour to celebrate the launch of Rose Under Fire in the USA and Canada - and for once I have got it together enough to post a list of public appearances more than 24 hours before I make them (just)! Hi,

It was absolutely fabulous to meet you, if only briefly, at Children's Book World this afternoon. I hope I get the chance again in future. Your reflections on your research process gave me a lot to think about.

I finally remembered the early Edward Fox film I was thinking of as we drove away. I've seen it twice in the last six months and I can't understand why the title was temporarily unavailable to my mental database: The Day of the Jackal. He plays a ruthless assassin, but Fred Zinnemann does a fabulous job of making the process so intriguing you end up -- in some part of your soul that it's hard to admit to having -- wanting him to succeed. The movie has some other great performances including a bit turn by a very young Derek Jacobi.

Verity and Rose are fabulous and touching books. Kudos and I am so glad you made it to our neighborhood.
