Okay, he's in. *phew* Off to bed and let's hope people will continue to talk to him and God will hold his hand to shelter Obama's attempts at getting the US out of the mess it is in.
I hope you slept well afterward. I had a look at it on youtube. He really has a gift for speech, reminds me a bit of JFK and MLK, but always keeping a level head.
And yay yay yay! My friend and I wound up missing the last subway into DC out of Alexandria, and took a cab halfway to her place and walked through streets of cheering people and people dancing in the streets and blasting their horns.
We cheered for every state he took. I was immensely proud of PA (although I nearly cried when I saw the the map of the state and I had convinced myself that he would take Dauphin county at least in the middle of the state). I was also very glad that I travelled down from Boston to cast my vote in Virginia.
yay are you a virginia person, too? i go to school in NY so i had to vote by absentee ballot - really wish i could have been there to celebrate the moment it was announced virginia was going to obama!
I'm kind of nomadic right now, without any real permanent residency, and planning my next real place that isn't a bedroom in my parents' house to be Boston. I lived in Alexandria for three years and moved away in July. I voted for Kerry in Philly, and I flaked completely on getting a PA absentee ballot for PA for Gore. But, yeah, I voted in Virginia today, and watched the results come in in Virginia, and now I'm in DC for the week before I go back up to Mass.
It would have been so wonderful to be "home" for the elections. A morning-after celebratory brunch attended by a handful of ex-pats is just not the same as whooping it up all night in the streets with fellow citizens.
