ok, so I probably *am* interested in all these things, but they're are all such general interests. My actual listed interests are darned specific. How did I become so...blandly stereotyped? CATS?

Wow, yours are even more general than mine (which included reading, writing, books, chocolate, cats, history, literature, etc, but also a couple of specific authors and TV shows).

I guess it's because it's pulling from lists with interests similar to one's own, and the more general interests tend to be more common? I always think it's fairly clear from my specific interests that I'm interested in, say, books and reading, and thus there's no point listing "books" and "reading" as interests. :)

Well, if you use the one that knocks all the common interests out, it gets better for you:

i had kelly link as an interest, which made me laugh -- she was not as high on the list as harry potter, but outranked coffee!

... I got things like "voluntary schizophrenia," "sounding rather explicitly sexual," and "hobo riot!" Wanna trade?

...what I find interesting is that I know the person who wrote that code...hehe.

Anyway, the reason why they're general interests is simply because general interests are more common, and the program is looking for common variables between all the other people who share your interests. It has nothing to do with stereotyping, merely flawed logic.

...all right, so that was horribly obvious...*sheepish gryn* *should have read other comments first*

There's a different version that knocks out the commoner interests, though? Woo! *goes hunting*

Yes, go read Tigana! Right now! Unless you've read it already?
