in re-reading The Horse Without a Head I can actually recognize the things I stumbled over when I was 7 and reading it for the first time - like "Polish pastry" I took for "polish pastry" (as in nail polish, not pastry from Poland) and "a thing that happened once in a blue moon" I took literally and thought it meant it was a thing that had happened once, a long time ago, when the moon was blue-looking
