well, I do recommend this Simon Armitage translation (as per above comments) of Gawaine and the Green Knight. It is supposed to echo local speech patterns, but modernized. I am really enjoying it. (Plus it is just a pretty book. You can get it in the US but the UK edition is much prettier.)
